About
INTERWOVEN offers a select group of outstanding senior visual arts students in Miami the opportunity to engage in master classes, workshops, and the creation of an original art installation and exhibition, guided by professional artists and scientists. Over several months, they will take on a challenge rooted in the deep ocean – its stewardship, its fragility, and its place in the advancement of global environmental sustainability.
The program is led throughout by acclaimed artist and designer Celia Ledón, who is developing the students’ challenge project together with NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg – an artist and an astronaut, building the kind of challenge students rarely get handed. Karen joins for a master class as part of the program. She spent 180 days in orbit, where the ocean dominates the view and changes to it are visible in ways they rarely are from the ground.
That perspective shapes the work. In Miami, the ocean isn’t a distant subject — it’s the view from the window, the reason the city exists, and a daily part of how people here think about what comes next.
