Cuba/USA

Celia Ledón is an artist and designer with more than a decade of international experience in visual arts, wearable art, installations, costume and production design, project management, and multidisciplinary arts production.

Armed with degrees in industrial and costume design, she has carved out an original career path, transforming discarded and repurposed materials into avant-garde creations that challenge fashion norms and engage pressing environmental and social issues. Bridging the fields of art, fashion, and activism, her practice is rooted in ecological awareness, material experimentation, and cross-sector collaboration.

Ledón has worked as costume designer and art director for 16 feature films, 50 short films and 100 videos and commercials. She has also directed visual and material concepts for 50 theatrical, operatic, and dance productions, incorporating recycled and unconventional materials to reflect character and context. Merging sustainability with theatricality, she offers immersive, site-specific experiences.

Her creations have been exhibited at galleries, museums, and art festivals throughout the Americas, Europe, and Oceania. She has also collaborated with prestigious institutions such as the Kennedy Center, Asia Society, Havana Biennale, and Biennial of the Americas, producing large-scale installations and performance-based works focusing on climate consciousness, cultural critique, and design innovation. She transmits her ethos and skills through various educational activities, including workshops, lectures, and advisory roles. Since 2021, she has also been project manager for FUNDarte, a Miami-based cultural incubator.

Ledón has been the subject of numerous online and print articles, and in 2021 won the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in Doral, Florida.
