A Quilt of Stars Book Tour
Debuting in Fall 2026, INTERWOVEN founding artist Karen Nyberg begins a national tour of A Quilt of Stars, a children’s book born from the first stitch ever sewn in space. Produced by The Hipsetter Group, the tour brings Karen and co-author Ann McCallum-Staats to museums, science centers, and cultural institutions across the country.
The tour reflects what INTERWOVEN exists to do: connect scientific achievement with handcraft, engineering with imagination, and the vastness of space with the intimacy of making by hand. At each stop, Karen and Ann invite children to hear the story, explore the connections between art and science, and make something themselves – turning curiosity into something tangible.
From the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., to Space Center Houston, the tour reaches young audiences and the adults who inspire them: families, educators, quilters, makers, and anyone drawn to the idea that curiosity can be a thread connecting seemingly distant worlds — from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of space.
A Quilt of Stars publishes September 29, 2026. Available for preorder now at www.familius.com, bookshop.org or wherever books are sold.

About the Book: A Quilt of Stars
A Quilt of Stars tells the inspiring true story of NASA Astronaut Dr. Karen Nyberg, who looked down at Earth from the International Space Station and saw our planet as a patchwork quilt of connected people and places. Inspired by that view, Karen made the first stitch ever sewn in space—and invited the world to join her.
Her initiative sparked a global NASA project that brought together thousands of crafters across 30+ countries, culminating in 28 king-size quilts. Beautifully illustrated by Alida Massari, A Quilt of Stars (for readers ages 5–8) celebrates the powerful connections between art, science, and human curiosity.
