Ten years after launching a patchwork of stars from her place in space, astronaut Karen Nyberg called for quilters across America to create quilt blocks inspired by NASA’s Artemis campaign to return humans to the Moon. The two Lunar Quilts commissioned by the festival, under direction of astronaut and textile artist Karen Nyberg featured 102 quilt blocks representing the 50 States + Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. They were displayed along side Nyberg’s textile exhibit Celebrating Women in Space History.
